Neptune Submit Phase Two Planning Application for New Brighton
Neptune Developments have submitted a detailed planning application for the second phase of their £60m regeneration scheme at New Brighton.
The new phase will comprise of three groups of buildings housing both leisure and retail space along with associated landscaping and public realm as well as improved highways and public transport links.
Neptune Developments Director Rob Mason has said: “We are delighted to have submitted this final detailed application and are looking forward to getting started on construction as soon as possible. The regeneration of New Brighton will not only provide sixty thousand square foot of retail space, but will also create jobs and help to boost the local economy.”
Phase one of the New Brighton scheme has proved to be hugely popular with the rebuilt 800-seater Floral Pavilion Theatre and Conference Centre getting a huge thumbs up from the local community, performers and theatre goers from across the region. Now as projects by other developers are mothballed across the country, Neptune continues to demonstrate its solid business base and optimism in the market as phase two is moving forward with a projected start on site later this year.
The main mixed-use building will include a pioneering six screen/1000 seat digital cinema, a 66 bed budget hotel and a Morrisons supermarket as well as a number of restaurants and bars. The original operator for the budget hotel, Premier Inn, has withdrawn from the project however a major budget hotel operator rival is in advanced talks with Neptune and an announcement is due shortly on their identity. There will also be a large public area separating this from a crescent shaped second building fronting the existing Marine Lake.
The Western end of the site will see a new public lido and a car par providing 750 spaces to cater for the amount of visitors that the development is expected to encourage. There will also be a two storey sailing school with its own purpose built pontoon.
With supermarket Morrisons and The Light Cinemas already signed up as tenants, the finished scheme is expected to boost the local economy by £21m per year.
Mr Mason added, “We’ve already been able to announce that some big names will feature prominently in the new development, and we’re expecting at least 70% of the available space to be signed up within the next few months.”
This second phase of construction is expected to take approximately 18 months, with completion due in 2011.
