Job
Search
The
internet is now a very useful tool for finding employment, gaining
new skills and information reagrding any issues or help you may
face finding a new job or advancing a career.
The Community Centre is offering free online services to local residents who are searching for work
Aims
To enable local people to take advantage of new job/training opportunities in the Wirral through a job ready program that develops their job search, interview, application and CV writing skills. The program will focus manly on those not in education, employment or training (NEET).
Objectives
To turn around those very high unemployment figures for New Brighton (see beneficiaries below). We will also work with Wirral Borough Council and the local developer Neptune Developments Ltd who have started work to regenerate New Brighton. We aim to act as a conduit showcasing jobs available in the present New Brighton Neptune development scheme - see: www.neptunedevelopments.co.uk or "New Brighton new layout".
We already have built up a strong relationship with the local authority and Neptune Developments over the years as the scheme has progressed, it is anticipated that hundreds of jobs in all sectors will be created during the second phase of the scheme and the Community Centre with its local knowledge, geographical location (close to the promenade were the development is taking place) and experience will be at the forefront ensuring as many local people as possible are employed on this scheme.
We have had a successful policy of getting people back into the jobs market (see case study below) by collaborating with the One Stop Shop & Jobcentreplus over the years. The UK Online centre is a lifeline for people looking to go back to work; it enabled them to write CVs, produce business cards and search for work etc.

In addition to issues around employment & training; a significant amount of people have health issues this is indicated by the latest report from the Birkenhead & Wallasey PCT which shows that on average 20% of adults in New Brighton suffer from severe obesity problems. To help combat this our Lunch Club provides daily healthy nutritious food.

Case Study - Added Value
Andrew Duncan, Wallasey Resident
Andrew says "The Centre was a lifeline for me, it proved to be an invaluable resource and I would not have got this job without it. Each day I came in I first of all went to the One Stop Shop for advice on my benefits and to see a job centre advisor, I then went into the Computer Suite to use the free facilities to search further and email potential employers. I then had help from the very friendly member of staff and volunteers to produce my CV and business card. I also used the inexpensive but nutritious Lunch Club each day and joined the Credit Union (Community Loans Scheme). At a time when I was struggling for money I could not have found my present job without their help, support and back up."
