News
from New Brighton Community Centre
The
Centre during this last year has seen major construction and a total
transformation with the news that it has been awarded nearly £500,000
worth of investment to become New Brighton's 1st UK Online Centre.
This major work will see the Centre become a flagship project on the
Wirral and enhance New Brighton's reputation as an ICT provider.
While
this major construction work was undertaken the Centre has not sat
idly by. It has been fully engaged with the 'new' Community Planning
process that has been instigated as a result of the 'Local Government
Bill' that recently came into force. Members sit on the Wirral Waterfront
Programme Steering Groups (PSGs) East Wallasey Area Forum and have
also been elected onto the Wirral Community/Voluntary Sector Network
Panel as the New Brighton representative. See overleaf for flow-chart
explaining this or further information on these programmes can be
viewed on 2 web-sites at: www.wirral.gov.uk

Online Centre
UK
Online is a drive to ensure that everyone in the UK who wants it will
have access to the internet and email near to where they live. The
successful bid came from a variety of sources including the Department
for Education & Science (DfES)
and the New Opportunities Fund (NOF).
Enhanced
Facilities
The
transformation of the Community Centre now means that it will be able
to offer enhanced ICT learning and associated Internet facilities
open for all members of the Community and its environs. The Centre
is ideally placed in a central location in the heart of the shopping
area with plenty of parking facilities, is also on the main bus routes
and 5 minutes from the train station.
The
Centre will run an open access policy with friendly helpful staff
on hand all day in warm and spacious surroundings. The main computer
suite is situated on the ground floor with a seminar room (with associated
learning materials) on the lower ground floor. Adjacent to the computer
suite is the Internet Café were users can enjoy a meal and
a drink while surfing on the Interactive TV. The first floor is available
for meetings and can cater for up to 35 people.
The
main room has been enlarged considerably and will soon have a dividing
wall to enable it to cater for both large group activities and meetings
of approximately 100 or small groups in two rooms. All the facilities
and rooms are easily accessed by stairs or a lift. The Centre hopes
shortly to be able to provide a full programme to cater for all sections
of the Community.
